Lake Como offers some of the most beautiful settings in Italy for a couple or love story photoshoot. Historic villas, botanical gardens and elegant lakeside architecture can turn a simple photography session into something truly special.
However, there is one important detail that is often overlooked when planning a photoshoot at Lake Como:
booking a photographer and accessing a private villa for a professional photoshoot are usually two separate services.
What does your photographer actually organise?
As your photographer, my main responsibility is the creative side of your experience.
I help you choose the right location according to the atmosphere you are looking for, advise you on the best time of day and light, plan the photography route and, of course, guide you naturally throughout the session.
My goal is to create beautiful photographs while making the experience itself feel relaxed and enjoyable.
However, a photographer is not a travel or event-planning agency.
Lake Como experiences can involve several independent services: villa reservations, photography permits, private boats, transfers, restaurants, florists, make-up artists and other suppliers.
I am happy to recommend trusted options and, when agreed in advance, I can also assist with coordinating some of these services. Their availability, conditions and costs, however, are determined by the individual suppliers and are separate from my photography fee.
Why does a photoshoot inside a Lake Como villa cost more?
One of the most common misunderstandings is the difference between a regular entrance ticket and permission to organise a professional photoshoot.
Many historic villas around Lake Como are museums, heritage properties or privately managed gardens.
A standard visitor may enter for approximately €10–€20, depending on the property. A couple arriving with a professional photographer for a planned photoshoot may instead be required to purchase a specific photography permit or package that can cost several hundred euros.
This fee belongs to the venue — it is not a photographer’s fee.
Another important point is exclusivity. In most cases, paying a photography fee does not mean that the villa becomes private for your session. The gardens remain open to regular visitors and photographers are expected to work respectfully around them without blocking paths or restricting access.
This is why experience with Lake Como locations matters: beautiful photographs often depend not only on the location itself, but also on timing, light, movement through the property and knowing how to work around visitors.
Lake Como Villa Photoshoot Prices
Below are examples of what a private couple photoshoot can cost at three of the most requested Lake Como locations.
Please note that these examples are intended for a couple / love story session in regular clothing. Prices and conditions may change if you are wearing wedding attire, organising a proposal or ceremony, bringing additional guests or vendors, or planning commercial photography.
Villa del Balbianello — Lenno
Villa del Balbianello is probably one of the most iconic photography locations on Lake Como.
Its terraces, stone architecture, lake views and famous loggia create an unmistakably Italian setting. It is also one of the most requested locations on the lake, so advance planning is particularly important.
Couple photography session: from €450
Villa photography permit / access: quoted separately by the venue
The final cost depends on the type of session and the conditions established by Villa del Balbianello.
A photography permit does not automatically provide exclusive use of the property. Unless a private arrangement has specifically been made with the venue, the villa remains accessible to other visitors.
Villa Melzi — Bellagio
Villa Melzi is one of my favourite options for couples who want an elegant but natural Lake Como atmosphere.
The gardens stretch along the lakefront and offer beautiful combinations of water, architecture, greenery and mountain views.
For private professional photography, Villa Melzi currently charges:
Photography permit: €427
Guest entrance: €10 per person
Photographer entrance: included in the photography permit
The photography permit is valid for the day during the garden’s opening hours.
The venue explicitly states that areas of the garden cannot be reserved exclusively for a photoshoot. Regular visitors will therefore be present during the session.
Additional services such as a private boat or transfer are not included.
Villa Monastero — Varenna
Villa Monastero is an excellent alternative for couples looking for elegant Lake Como scenery in Varenna.
Its long botanical garden runs directly along the lake and offers a wide variety of photographic backgrounds within a relatively compact area.
Professional private photoshoots require advance reservation and a dedicated photography fee.
Villa photography fee: approximately €300 per hour
The venue’s photography fee includes access for two people and photography staff according to the conditions of the reservation.
As with the other villas, booking a photoshoot does not necessarily mean having the entire garden exclusively to yourselves.
Other wonderful locations…
Not all locations publish the amount of photography permit fee on their website but clearly specify that it is available on request and subjected to confirmation with the venue.
Villa Carlotta is located in Tremezzo and is one of Lake Como’s most beautiful historic residences, known for its magnificent botanical gardens, elegant architecture and breathtaking views across the lake towards Bellagio.
Its romantic gardens, grand staircases and lakeside terraces offer a wonderful variety of settings for a couple or engagement photoshoot.
Villa Carlotta is particularly beautiful during spring, when its gardens come alive with colourful flowers, but its combination of architecture and nature makes it an attractive photography location throughout the visiting season.
Please note that a regular entrance ticket of €17.50 per adult (2026) does not automatically include permission to organise a professional photoshoot. Fee can vary on the basis of the time coverage and required spaces.

Villa Pizzo, located in Cernobbio, is surely another truly distincitve location for couples dreaming of an elegant and intimate Lake Como atmosphere. This magnificent 17th-century residence is surrounded by extensive gardens overlooking the lake.
Its historic architecture, Italian gardens, beautiful terraces and romantic lakeside setting create an atmosphere that is particularly suited to refined, editorial-style couple photography.
The villa officially welcomes professional photoshoots, including fashion and commercial productions, with access and conditions arranged directly with its management.
Can you organise the entire Lake Como experience for us?
Yes — additional assistance can be arranged.
Some couples prefer to organise their villa, boat and transportation independently, while others want one point of contact and a more curated experience.
In that case, I can create a personalised proposal that may include assistance with:
- villa and photography-permit coordination
- private boat recommendations
- transfers between locations
- photography timeline and route
- recommendations for additional trusted suppliers
This is an additional planning service and is quoted individually according to the complexity of the experience.

Villa regulations and fees can change from season to season.
The prices above are therefore intended as a planning guide for 2026 and should always be confirmed for your specific date before booking.
The final quote may also differ for wedding or bridal attire, proposals, ceremonies, commercial photography, larger groups, additional photographers or videographers, or sessions requiring special access.
